Interrupting Privilege

University of Washington Center for Communication Difference and Equity program discussing racially diverse, intergenerational groups for the past eight years.

To best enjoy ‘Interrupting Privilege’ we recommend bringing your phone and an audio listening device to better fully experience the exhibit.

“Tell me about the first time you remember experiencing discrimination? What have your parents taught you about race and your racial identity? Whose responsibility is it to interrupt racism?”

About the Exhibit

This exhibition aims to display the diverse array of discussions and concepts that have emerged from the Interrupting Privilege project over the years and across its various iterations. This interactive exhibit traces the evolution of the Interrupting Privilege program, and offers moving realizations from participants--from teen-agers who speak unequivocally about what their teachers could do better to recognize their nuanced identities, to scientists who talk about what it was like to be a mother, a person of color, and a researcher on the frontlines of a global pandemic. To best experience the exhibit, we recommend bringing your phone and an audio listening device.

Interrupting Privilege will be run from May 10 through September 2024.
